Moi Rewards has officially made its debut in Ontario! This loyalty program stands out due to its unique features that set it apart from other grocery rewards systems. In this article, I will provide a comprehensive overview of what Moi Rewards has to offer. Let’s delve into the essentials of Moi Rewards.
What is Moi Rewards?
Moi Rewards is the loyalty initiative linked to Metro Inc.’s supermarket chains. If you’re unfamiliar with Metro, they operate several brands, including:
- Metro
- Food Basics
- Super C
- Jean Coutu
- Brunet
- Première Moisson
Moi Rewards earning rate
In Ontario, members earn 1 Moi Rewards point for every $3 spent at Metro stores. Meanwhile, in Quebec and New Brunswick, the points structure allows for 1 point for every $1 spent. Although standard purchases at Food Basics, Super C, or Première Moisson do not earn points, members can still accrue bonus points on specific promotional items.
What sets Moi Rewards apart is its approach of awarding points on all purchases, unlike many other grocery loyalty programs that limit points to selective in-store and targeted promotions.
Moi in-store and targeted offers
If you aim to maximize your Moi Rewards, it’s essential to take notice of in-store promotions that can generate significant points. For illustration, here’s a recent promotional flyer from my local Metro in Ontario:

In this flyer, you can earn 25 points for each can of Pringles, 40 points on pizza pops, and 20 points on pasta. This reward is added to your regular point earnings, providing an excellent opportunity to enhance your points total.
While you won’t gain points on standard purchases at Food Basics, they do have their own in-store offers.

Notably, Food Basics is also providing points on select items at fixed prices, making shopping there even more appealing for their budget-friendly offerings.
Apart from in-store promotions, Moi Rewards features targeted offers available on the app. Currently, my app includes promotions for 35 points on any frozen pizza, 55 points on any brand of maple syrup, and 70 points when purchasing turkey or chicken breast.
As you become more engaged with Moi Rewards, the personalized offers will adapt to your shopping habits. For instance, if you frequently buy fresh fruits and deli meats, you’ll likely receive offers tailored to those categories.
Don’t forget to manually activate these offers within your account; ensure you check the app consistently.

How to redeem Moi Rewards
Redeeming your Moi Rewards points is straightforward. You can exchange 500 points for a $4 discount on your purchases at participating stores. For larger redemptions, you can do so in $1 increments (125 points), which is appealing compared to other loyalty programs that may enforce higher minimum thresholds. This feature also applies to Food Basics in Ontario.
Maximizing Moi Rewards with RBC
Moi has formed a partnership with RBC, allowing members to amplify their point accumulation. Firstly, if you link your Moi Rewards account with an RBC Avion Rewards credit or debit card, you’ll acquire an additional point for every $2 spent at qualifying stores, provided you meet a minimum spending requirement of at least $60 at Metro and Food Basics. This dual earning potential enables you to collect Moi Rewards alongside Avion Rewards, which can be redeemed for travel, gas, merchandise, and more.
There’s also the Moi RBC Visa Card, requiring no annual fees. It provides 1 point for every $1 spent, similar to standard Moi Rewards earning, plus an extra point per dollar spent.
Considering the standard earning rate in Ontario is 1 point per $3 spent at Metro, using the Moi RBC Visa Card effectively boosts your earnings to 1.33 points per $1 spent at participating locations.
Additionally, you’ll receive 2 points for each dollar spent on dining, gas, and EV charging, with all other purchases earning 1 point per dollar.
Is Moi Rewards good?
If you shop at Metro or even visit occasionally, engaging with Moi Rewards is worthwhile as you accumulate points on all your transactions, supplemented by customized offers and flyer promotions.
While standard purchases at Food Basics do not earn points, there are still in-store offers available to take advantage of. Importantly, you have the opportunity to redeem your points for discounts, contributing to greater savings. You can enroll today via the Metro or Food Basics app, on the website moirewards.ca, or directly at the checkout.
