Top Secret Places to Hide Money

As someone who prioritizes savings, I’ll begin by highlighting the options that come free of charge.

1. Inside a tennis ball

When was the last time you scoured for cash in a tennis ball canister? It likely wouldn’t be your first thought. Create a small slit to slide bills in and out, then place the ball back with other tennis balls for a discreet hiding spot.

However, if you don’t have other sports equipment around, a solitary tennis ball may seem peculiar.

2. On the bottom of a dresser drawer

This location might strike you as too obvious and potentially accessible. While placing cash directly at the base of a sock drawer is risky, securing an envelope to the underside of the drawer adds a layer of concealment; rummaging through socks won’t reveal your stash.

3. Inside a pen

Surprisingly, you can conceal cash within a pen. Wrap a folded $100 bill around the pen’s inner tube and reassemble it.

This method not only keeps your money hidden but ensures you have a functioning pen as well. Just be cautious not to lend it out, or you might lose that hundred!

4. Under your mattress

This is a popular spot for stashing money, perhaps so much so that many might assume it’s the first place to check. Despite its commonality, it’s still a better option than leaving cash exposed.

5. Fake electrical wall outlet

Having owned one of these as a child, it’s an ingenious spot for hiding cash. Just remember to choose one that matches your existing outlets to maintain a subtle appearance.

    6. Inside your shoes

Since we’re on a roll with classic ideas, why not utilize an old pair of shoes? Remove the insoles and stash cash underneath them for a clever hiding space.

    7. In an empty food container

Transition an emptied Lean Cuisine box into a clandestine safe in your freezer, where your cash will stay cold yet secure.

If the freezer doesn’t suit you, consider using an empty cereal box instead. Just be cautious to prevent anyone from tossing it out under the assumption that it’s empty.

    8. Inside a curtain rod

If your curtain rods have removable ends, you can cleverly hide cash inside. Roll the money tightly, secure it with a rubber band, and insert it back into the rod before replacing the end cap.

    9. Inside the couch cushions

This method is straightforward; many cushions have zippers that allow easy access to stuff cash inside and then zip it back up. Some barstool seats have a similar design!

Along with utilizing items you already own, there are also store-bought options that can blend beautifully into your home. Here are a few favorites.

    10. Dr. Pepper stash can

This is another clever option to conceal cash, best suited for soda enthusiasts. Ensure that the can matches others in your pantry to avoid attracting attention.

As Barbasol is a common grooming staple, it serves as an excellent disguise for money in bathrooms.

        12. Corn can safe

This option is perfect for hiding cash in the pantry, but make sure you have a spare corn can in case you truly need to use the corn.

        12. Pringles can diversion safe

This one can be tricky; if I had a can of Pringles in the cupboard, it would be difficult to explain to guests why they can’t have any, as I’m saving them for something special.

          13. Hair brush stash safe

This practical safe serves dual purposes; it both untangles hair and discreetly conceals cash. It’s among my favorite hiding places since it’s a functional item you can use regularly.

          14. Dictionary diversion book safe

If you want to discreetly stash cash like Andy did in The Shawshank Redemption, a dictionary can serve a similar purpose as it did with the Bible in the film.

            15. Wall clock safe

This option works well if you plan to hide the money and not access it frequently. Keeping the wall clock high might require a step ladder to retrieve your cash, but it’s unlikely to be discovered. Like the hairbrush, it combines functionality with security.

            16. Laundry hamper

Another idea is to secure an envelope with cash to the underside of a laundry hamper or place it inside beneath the cloth or plastic lining.

Everyone has a laundry hamper, which makes this a simple and accessible choice.

            17. DVD case

Even if streaming has become popular, don’t discard your old DVDs yet. Keep a few for hiding money; simply tuck cash inside DVD cases. Place them behind other cases that don’t contain cash to keep it concealed.

            18. Lego structure

This is one of my favorite methods; if you have kids and Legos, allow them to construct a Lego structure with a hidden compartment.

For those without children, consider building a model and displaying it to create a hobby appearance.

            19. Flashlight

Utilize an old or non-functioning flashlight by removing the batteries and stashing rolled-up cash within the battery compartment. Store the flashlight among other tools to keep it inconspicuous.

If you worry about it feeling too light, adding stones can offset the balance and maintain its natural weight.

            20. Garage

The garage can serve as an effective cash hiding place, as it’s often overlooked and usually cluttered.

Consider the following locations within your garage:

            • Under a toolbox
            • Behind or beneath shelving units
            • Under large appliances like a refrigerator or freezer
            • In a tackle box

Be sure to maintain security by locking garage doors and windows.

            21. Board games

Board games present another great opportunity for hiding cash; consider placing an envelope with money among the game pieces or taping it inside the game box itself.

            22. Old coat pocket

That old coat you no longer wear could serve a purpose if you stash cash in an inside or exterior pocket or sew it into the coat lining before storing it away in your closet.

            23. Entertainment center

Entertainment centers hold many potential hiding spots for cash; you can tape an envelope of money or roll cash into various gaps throughout the unit.

            24. Water bottle

If you’re like me, you likely have a cabinet filled with metal and plastic water bottles waiting to be reused.

Why not use one as a piggy bank, storing it in the back of the cupboard for added security?

              25. Printer or PC

Printers and computers can also serve as effective cash hiding spots. Tape an envelope with money under your PC or printer or place it inside an old, unused machine.

              Summary

As you can see, there are numerous creative ways to conceal money in your home, including several free options. Choosing the one that works best for your situation is key.

For instance, with a two-year-old in my home, hiding money in shoes would be a risk since she would likely discover and misplace it elsewhere. Instead, utilizing the wall clock would be a far more suitable option for my needs.
